This is an area we won’t give recommendations on as there are so many elements of personal choice which go into deciding which nursery or school to send your children too. For our NTTN Bespoke clients, we will happily discuss your family’s individual needs and make recommendations based on those. For the rest, you can’t go far wrong in an area such as Cobham and Oxshott.
Residents are a discerning bunch and weak establishment won’t last long.
Nurseries (as opposed to day care nurseries) tend to work on a school-like term basis, sometimes with holiday school offered by a member of staff for all or some of the termly breaks. Hours are generally more like a school day than a day care nursery.
Excellent nurseries on your doorstep with hundreds of recommendations are:

It comes with an ENORMOUS personal recommendation. 23 Spencer Road, Cobham, KT11 2AF www.cobhammontessori.co.uk Tel: 01932 863397

One thing you’ll learn very quickly in this area is that if you’re planning to educate your children in the State system, you’d better learn strategy, long term planning and be prepared to talk of nothing else. There is a shortage of places in the area which has been slightly alleviated by the opening of Cobham Free School in September 2012 but there is still an annual scramble for places at your first choice school each year. Catchment areas are tiny (read less than a mile, for Royal Kent try 0.5 miles) and preference is given to siblings which means in a boom year (if you listen to the rumours, that’s every year) there may be only a handful of places for new incumbents. The good news is that even if you don’t get your first choice, your child will always get a place in a good Primary school in the area.
With such a demanding clientele, there are no weak schools in the area and of the ones you are most likely to be considering, nothing is below an Oftsed Overall Rating of ‘Good’ and three are currently rated ‘Excellent’ so choose the State route with confidence if it’s on your list of options.
Given the area, there are also some excellent private schools in the immediate vicinity, and even more a stone’s throw away. The only thing to consider when choosing a school is whilst the traffic might be absolutely fine when you go for the school Open Day at 10am on a Saturday, what will it be like in the depths of winter when there’s been a lane closure on the M25 and you and the rest of the world are trying to drop off or collect your children from school? A normal 15 minute journey could take you 45 minutes. No joke.
Below you will find basic contact details and information for the Primary schools in the immediate vicinity. Visit www.ofsted.gov.uk for a full list of State schools nearby – you can enter your postcode and perform a personalised search. Also by visiting the OFSTED website you can enter a school’s URN to view the full current report and ‘dashboard’ summary.
For the private schools, visit the Independent Schools Inspectorate site – www.isi.net to view inspection reports. Search tip – only put the school name in, if you use a partial postcode it will return 0 results.
